Today we got up early again to leave by truck to go to Anse D'Hainaut to do a VBS, medical and eyeglass clinic.
En route we stopped at one of our Lutheran churches and schools in De Sar Meaie.
Not much of a building - simple walls and roof, but a school of 120 children! It is wonderful to see the children get an education, something that many in Haiti are not receiving.
The dedication of the staff, who work for less than $50 a month, is inspiring!
Our next stop en route to Anse D'Hainaut was Dame Marie - another of our Lutheran church and schools.
Again, the same situation as above.
When we arrived at Anse D'Hainaut and our Lutheran churches and schools there, we immediately did a VBS while we set up for the medical and eyeglass clinic. As was the case in the last two days, there were people who had stood in line hours before we came. Today we took all of our medical supplies with the prayer that the five tubs of medical supplies would get to us tomorrow. We were able to serve everyone who needed medical attention. The eyeglass clinic served over 100 people. Again, to see the joy on someone who has not been able to see well to receive a pair of glasses - well it is simply a testimony of the Mercy and Compassion of Christ.Everyone who comes through also has someone pray with and over them!
Leaving Anse D'Hainaut we saw many of the people walking home - many walking miles. One elderly man riding a donkey with his new glasses!
The two and a half hour ride home on gravel bumpy road leaves a lot to be desired!
Tonight after devotions, I met with a ministry college from Haiti who has worked with us in the past mission trips. He shared with me how he lost his home in Port au Prince in the earthquake and that he and his family are now living in a tent. Since all the schools are closed indefinitely in the Port au Prince area, and his son would normally be in school (four years old), and his wife is a teacher, they are in desperate financial situation. They lost many of the items in his home plus his vehicle. Yet he continues to service the church-at -large in the Feeding Program - of which he is the director. What dedication! What a faith. Pray for his family as this is very difficult for them as they live in a tent with no immediate solution in sight. He is also gone most days with the Feeding Program for the children in our schools.
God is Good! Pray that the other medical supplies get to us tomorrow from American Airlines!
To see Jesus in their eyes …. That is what keeps us going.
