Jeremie residence reach out to victims while fearful of how to handle influx of refugees. Citizens of far western community have pulled their meager resources to send supplies to the capital and then to bring back displaced and wounded Haitians.
Earlier this week a ship loaded with food and locally grown fruit was sent to Port-au-Prince and then returned with an estimated 2000 refugees. Buses have been hired to head to capital and have returned with masses of people crammed in or riding on top but lack of adequate fuel has prevented additional rescue attempts. Returning with the bus loads are stories of long lines of people on foot exiting the destruction zones and hoping to reconnect with family stilling living in the mountain villages. Already lean resources are being shared with the hope and prayers that Christian aid will re-supply their needs.
